Camden homes, arranged for the life now in them.
Residential architects in NW1 and NW5.
Camden Town sits in the London Borough of Camden, two and a half miles north west of Charing Cross, and the London Plan names it one of 34 major centres in Greater London. Historically it was in Middlesex rather than London, which is part of why the street pattern and the housing stock change so sharply from one block to the next.
We are an architect, design and build studio at 517 Old York Road in Wandsworth. Design and delivery are held in one accountable team, so the studio that draws the home is the studio that builds it. Budget is tied to scope out loud, early, before drawings develop far enough to be expensive to undo.
The studio is on Old York Road in Wandsworth, which is not around the corner from here. Distance changes how a site is run rather than whether we run it, and we plan the logistics for it at the start rather than discovering them halfway through.
“A strong start creates a better outcome. When the plan is right, the rest moves with ease.”
- The Elemented Team
Everything mapped.
Nothing rushed.
The Elemented way.
Great homes are not created by chance. They come from understanding how people live before deciding how a space should look.
Every Elemented project follows the same journey. We listen first, define what matters, refine every decision and deliver with care.
It is a process that removes uncertainty, creates confidence and results in homes that feel as good to live in as they are to look at.
Who we work with.
We work with people who want clarity before commitment.
Whether it’s a full renovation or a refined upgrade,
planning is where the calm begins.
We only take on a limited number of projects each year.
This helps us make sure we’re the right fit for each other.
Our work is best suited to larger residential projects where early clarity, architectural thinking, and integrated delivery matter.
Which borough is Camden in?
The London Borough of Camden, which is the authority you apply to. The borough covers a great deal more than Camden Town itself and precedent varies across it, so the answer for your street is not always the answer for the borough. That is what the Clarity Pack settles before design begins.
Do I need planning permission for an extension in Camden?
Often less than people expect. Many rear and side return extensions fall under permitted development and need no full application. Conservation areas change that, and a dense inner London borough has a great many boundaries close together. It also depends on the house and the boundary, which is what the Clarity Pack settles before design begins.
Do you work on period homes in Camden?
That is most of the work. Period and character homes, Victorian and Edwardian, alongside newer houses built well and arranged wrong for the life now in them. Period homes are where holding design and delivery together earns its keep, because what is behind the plaster is rarely what the survey suggested.
Can you design and build a loft conversion in Camden, or only design it?
Both, and we would rather do both. Head height and stair position decide whether a loft becomes a proper retreat or an awkward room, and both are answerable before anything is spent on design. Because one studio designs and delivers, whoever specifies the stair is whoever has to fit it.
What does a side return extension do to a Camden terrace?
It takes the narrow strip beside the kitchen, which most terraces leave over, and turns it into part of the home. What changes is not the floor area so much as the light. It reaches the social heart of the house, which in a Victorian terrace is usually the darkest part of the plan. The structure is where the care goes: a cranked steel beam lets the glass roof and the side glazing meet in one plane, without a post standing in the middle of the room.
What does a project in Camden cost?
We tie budget to scope at the start rather than at the end, which is the point of the Clarity Pack. It gives you an early budget range against your actual scope, the feasibility and planning position, and a provisional timeline. We would rather tell you early that an ambition and a budget do not meet than discover it together on site.
